"Individual science fiction stories may seem as trivial as ever to the blinder critics and philosophers of today — but the core of science fiction, its essence, the concept around which it revolves, has become crucial to our salvation if we are to be saved at all." -Isaac Asimov

It wasn’t supposed to happen this way. I mean, it was just a bit of fun. It had been, what? 4000 years? How could anyone care about something that happened 4000 years ago? Well, when you’re alive for eternity, 4000 years is just a flash in the pan, and to Moira, it seemed only yesterday. Created as “Kokabiel” she was the Angel of the Stars, one of the Grigori (“watcher” angels), skilled in astronomy and astrology, as well as the workings of the fate of man written in the stars. She was a solider of god, commanding 360,000 surrogate spirits and angels. Her troubles began with the evolution of man. Along with 19 other Grigori leaders and 200 other angels, she decided to travel down from heaven to earth to reap the benefits the humans had been granted from their inception - war, sex, drugs. She and her companions began to lust for the pleasures of men and women - not just their bodies, but their food, their music, all the simple pleasures humans take for granted. In exchange, the 20 Grigori granted their knowledge to the humans; Azazel taught the art of war, Amaros taught the benefit of enchantments and healing, and Kokabiel taught astronomy and astrology.

Unfortunately, the humans fucked it all up. Women impregnated by the angels gave birth to Nephilim, who were marked by the so-called holy men of various civilizations around the world as abominations. They blamed the angels, saying they were tricked into everything because the desire for knowledge was too tempting. Deities seem to always fall for the bullshit of humans.

In return? The archangels, Michael at the head, blocked their entrance back into heaven. Most turned away willingly and now spend eternity serving other gods in other realms. Others, including Moira, decided they would fight for re-entrance, that their travels down to Earth did more good than harm, and that they deserve the same freedoms as humans. The remaining Grigori were defeated. Many, like Azazel, were banished to what the humans call “hell.” Moira was lucky - when defeat was imminent, she simply fell into the “nether realms” of Earth, of which there are several. She cannot cross over into the human world, or she will risk losing not only her power, but her anonymity and immortality as well. Of all the Earth’s nether realms, she seems to have taken a liking to Nightside. That is, until word reached her ears that the Archangel Michael had come down to earth in disguise to hunt the angels, including Kokabiel, who had escaped his wrath so long ago. Moira is currently thankful for two things: 1) He has no idea what she looks like. 2) She still has her sword.
